About ChemModel

Our Mission Welcome to ChemModel, an open-access educational platform dedicated to molecular visualization and computational chemistry. Our mission is to democratize access to advanced scientific tools, removing the barriers of expensive software or powerful hardware. We believe science should be visual, interactive and accessible to everyone, from high-school students to university researchers.

What we do At the intersection of modern web technology and rigorous science, ChemModel brings together several tools that run directly in your browser:

  • Molecular Studio: search any compound by name —in English or Spanish, even misspelled thanks to artificial intelligence— or draw it, and explore it in 3D with its properties.
  • Chemical reactions: draw or pick a reaction and check whether it is balanced, get the coefficients, the reaction type and each species in 3D. It includes an advanced editor with atom mapping.
  • Isomerism Studio: compare molecules side by side and find out what kind of isomers they are.
  • Biomolecule viewer: explore proteins and DNA from the Protein Data Bank.
  • Step-by-step tutorials in English and Spanish, and tools to share and embed molecules and reactions in classes, blogs and presentations.

ChemModel uses cutting-edge technologies such as WebGL and open-source libraries (3Dmol.js, JSME, Ketcher, OpenChemLib and NGL Viewer) connected to PubChem, the NIH chemical database. When PubChem has no 3D structure for a compound, ChemModel computes one. This turns flat formulas into three-dimensional structures in real time, making it easier to understand concepts such as stereochemistry, molecular geometry and stoichiometry.

Our Commitment to STEM Education ChemModel was born from the conviction that technology is pedagogy's best ally. We aim to support teachers and students with a tool that is:

  • Free: no subscriptions or paywalls.

  • Instant: no downloads or installations.

  • Safe: a digital environment free of chemical hazards.

The Team Behind ChemModel is a team passionate about science communication and web development. We keep improving the accuracy of our algorithms and the user experience, so that chemical knowledge is just a click away.

ChemModel.com is part of a family of websites, such as Quimicafacil.net, that have been bringing scientific knowledge —especially chemistry— to the Spanish-speaking public for years.
